Curating Performance in the Frankfurt Rhine-Main Region

The opportunity to work as curator-in-residence at the Frankfurter Kunstverein forms the starting point of the research project Curating Performance in the Frankfurt Rhine-Main Region. Initiated by art historian Claudia Marion Stemberger, the study analyses the working environment of performance artists in an interdisciplinary context.

Since the late 1990s, along with the growing interest in performance art, a large number of institutions have increasingly been looking at performance art (and its related representational modes). However, this study focuses less on the institutional endeavours, rather the research objective is to concentrate on the artists' viewpoint with regard to curatorial strategies. What does it mean to be curated as a performance artist in the Frankfurt Rhine-Main region?

Deutsche Börse Residency Program at the Frankfurter Kunstverein

The Deutsche Börse Residency Program provides international artists, curators and art educators an apartment used as a temporary living and working space. Intellectual exchange and artistic creativity are at the heart of this initiative, which was jointly established by Frankfurter Kunstverein (the Frankfurt Art Association) and Deutsche Börse Group. The project aims at integrating guests into the programme of the prestigious exhibition hall as well into the cultural life of the city of Frankfurt.
